A new day at Cleveland City Hall?
December 9, 2017
The news that Mike Cosgrove is leaving the City of Cleveland to become Executive Director of Neighborhood Housing Service is another sign that the landscape at City Hall is changing. With Cosgrove's departure, two of the key city departments dealing with lead safe housing have flipped.
Building and Housing Director Ron O'Leary was elected Housing Court Judge in November. Both Community Development and Building and Housing will be led by "acting" directors for the time being.
Maybe now there's an opportunity to shift these departments away from a defensive posture against the Lead Safe Ordinance?
The announcement that Council President Kelley was putting Lead Poisoning on his agenda for his next term as Council President is also a sign of change.
Finally, there was welcome news at the CLSN Fall Convening when Councilman Brancatelli declared that he would hold hearings on ordinance 990-17 early next year.
With some new faces in Council, it's time to reboot the effort to get a lead safe housing ordinance in front to the Cleveland community. Join us in that effort.
